Structured Data Types (Schema Markup) for WordPress

Schema markup is code that tells search engines what your content is: an article, a business, a person. CrawlWP adds this structured data to your pages for you, as one connected JSON-LD graph. You say who runs the site, add your logo and social profiles, and CrawlWP does the rest.

What it does

What CrawlWP schema markup does

Fill in a few details once. CrawlWP turns them into structured data and adds it to your pages. No coding needed.

Schema markup settings in CrawlWP: organization or person, logo, LocalBusiness details and social profiles

Organization or person

Tell search engines whether your site is run by a business or by a person.

Name, tagline and logo

Your name defaults to your site title. Use a square logo of at least 112 × 112 pixels.

Social profiles

Add your Facebook, X, and other profile links. They connect your site to your social accounts.

Local business schema

Your address, phone number, and opening hours as LocalBusiness data, for local search.

Opening hours

Add one time range per line, such as Mo-Fr 09:00-17:00.

Article schema

Every post gets Article markup with its headline, author, and section.

Breadcrumb schema

A BreadcrumbList that shows search engines where each page sits on your site.

One connected graph

All the pieces link together in one JSON-LD graph, not scattered snippets.

See the output

The Schema tab in the SEO metabox shows the markup for each post.

Ready for AI search

Structured data helps AI tools understand who runs your site and what each page is about.

Switch off what you do not need

Leave LocalBusiness or breadcrumb schema off if they do not fit your site.

No coding needed

Fill in a form. CrawlWP writes the JSON-LD code for you.

Why it matters

Why schema markup matters

Search engines read your pages, but they do not always understand them. Structured data spells it out: this is an article, written by this person, published by this business.

That helps search engines and AI tools describe your site correctly. It can also make your pages eligible for rich results, although Google decides what to show.

  • Tell search engines who runs your site
  • Connect your site to your social profiles
  • Give local search your address, phone number, and opening hours
  • Describe each article: its headline, author, and section
  • Show search engines how your pages fit together

How it works

Add schema markup in three steps

Fill in your details once. After that, CrawlWP automatically adds the right markup to every page.

Step 1

Say who runs the site

On the Site Information screen, choose Organization or Person, then add your name, tagline, and logo.

Step 2

Add profiles and business details

Paste your social profile links. If you are a local business, switch on LocalBusiness schema and add your address, phone number, and hours.

Step 3

Check a post

Open any post and look at the Schema tab in the SEO metabox to see the markup CrawlWP created.

Schema types

Structured data types CrawlWP adds

Each type describes one part of your site. CrawlWP links them together in a single graph.

  • WebSite: your site and its name.
  • Organization or Person: who runs the site, with your logo and social profiles.
  • LocalBusiness: your address, phone number, and opening hours.
  • Article: each post’s headline, author, and section.
  • BreadcrumbList: where each page sits on your site.

Breadcrumbs on the page and in the markup

The breadcrumb shortcode shows a breadcrumb trail on your pages, with your own home label and separator. Switch on BreadcrumbList schema and the same trail is added to the structured data on every page.

Questions

Schema markup questions

Answers to the questions people ask most about schema markup and structured data in WordPress.

What is schema markup?

It is code added to your pages that tells search engines what your content is, such as an article, a business, or a person. You do not see it on the page. Search engines and AI tools read it.

Are schema markup and structured data the same thing?

Nearly. Structured data is information in a fixed format. Schema markup is structured data that uses the Schema.org vocabulary. CrawlWP writes it as JSON-LD, the format Google recommends.

Which structured data types does CrawlWP add?

WebSite, Organization or Person, LocalBusiness (if you switch it on), Article for posts, and BreadcrumbList (if you switch it on).

Will schema markup get me rich results?

It can make your pages eligible for some, but Google decides what to show. Correct markup is the first step.

What happened to the sitelinks search box?

Google stopped showing it in November 2024, so it no longer appears in search results. Old markup for it does no harm.

Can I see the markup before publishing?

Yes. The Schema tab in the SEO metabox shows the output for each post. You can also test any page with Google’s Rich Results Test.

Do I need a separate schema plugin?

For most sites, no. If you keep another schema plugin, turn off its output so your pages do not carry two sets of markup.

Is schema markup free in CrawlWP?

Yes. It is part of CrawlWP Lite, the free version, including LocalBusiness and breadcrumb schema.
